KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 31, 2013): As protesters gather at different meeting points in the city and head towards Dataran Merdeka to participate in the Turun Kos Sara Hidup or Turun (Movement to Reduce the Cost of Living) rally, theSun's team is on the ground. 10.16pm: Group led by Turun chairman Muhamad Azan Safar merges with other groups as they head towards DBKL's headquarters.
10.05pm: Some 50 DBKL personnel seen stationed in front of DBKL's headquarters together with police.
9.56pm: Led by Muhamad Azan, protesters start marching towards DBKL's headquarters.
9.49pm: Turun chairman Muhamad Azan Safar arrives at Sogo.
9.45pm: Sogo shuts down its doors while protesters continue to give speeches at the front of the building.
9.41pm: Shops along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman have closed as the number of protesters in the area increases.
9.37pm: Protesters go around the human barricade formed by police at Dataran Merdeka.
9.27pm: People are marching towards Dataran DBKL. Police have formed a human barricade and also a physical one at Dataran Merdeka. Protesters begin moving past the first barricade and are going towards the human barricade formed by the police.
9.25pm: At Dataran Merdeka about a 1,000 have gathered for the New Year's even countdown as the police and DBKL personnel keep a close watch.
9.22pm: The 500 odd protesters gathered near the Masjid Jamek LRT station have begun moving towards Dataran Merdeka. They are holding placards and chanting " Hidup Rakyat!", "Turun!" and "Reformasi!".
9.01pm: Five groups of student activists give brief speeches while awaiting the arrival of Turun chairman Muhamad Azan Safar. Shouts of " Hidup mahasiswa!" heard from the crowd who are mostly clad in black t-shirts.
8.52pm: Shouts of "Hancur! hancur rejim! Hancur Barisan! Reformasi! can be heard from protesters gathered at Sogo.
8.50pm: Four buses, two vans and six trucks from PDRM arrive at Dataran Merdeka along with an ambulance.
8.28pm: Some hundred people clad in black t-shirts seen near the Sogo shopping centre.
8.14pm: About a 100 hundred people have gathered in the vicinity of Masjid Jamek LRT. Many of them are clad in back. Meanwhile the New Year's eve countdown has begun at Dataran Merdeka.
8.09pm: About 200 to 300 people seen at Masjid Jamek mosque. Some are praying. Most of them are clad in back.
7.53pm: Turun chairman Muhamad Azan Safar told theSun that he will be at Sogo at about 10pm
7.42pm: Save for vendors and a few people wearing Turun t-shirts, no sign of protesters at Jln Tun Perak heading to Masjid Jamek LRT area
7.37pm: Two women officers spotted with tear gas masks at the Masjid Jamek LRT station.
7.27pm: Shops at Central Market area operating as usual. A heavy traffic jam is building up in the area.
7.11pm: Hundreds of police personnel and DBKL personnel seen patrolling the vicinity of Dataran Merdeka and the surrounding area
